VTK Export for Acrobat is a Visualization Toolkit VTK file export plug-in for Acrobat®. This plug-in gives Acrobat the ability to export objects from 3D PDF file in Acrobat to 3D polygon mesh objects in a Visualization Toolkit VTK file.

VTK Export for Acrobat tessellates objects in a 3D PDF into a set of triangular meshes. These meshes are then exported to a VTK file as mesh objects. The VTK file can then be imported into a variety of CAD applications.

VTK Export for Acrobat is very easy to use. Once installed, it automatically loads itself into Acrobat and adds a new menu called "VTKExport" to the Acrobat menu containing these newly added commands.

Note: This plug-in will work with Adobe Acrobat® 9 Pro Extended only.

Installation & Usage

Since VTK Export for Acrobat is a plug-in for Acrobat, it must be loaded into the Acrobat environment before it can be used. Please follow the simple instructions in the VTK Export for Acrobat ReadMe document which is copied into the installation folder. After you have loaded the plug-in file into Acrobat, Simply click on the menu items in the "VTKExport" submenu to run these new commands. Truly, software made simple!

The VTK File Format

The Visualization ToolKit (VTK) is an open source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization used by thousands of researchers and developers around the world. VTK consists of a C++ class library, and several interpreted interface layers including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. The Toolkit stores geometric data in a file format known as VTK. Very few CAD applications have the ability to read and write VTK files.

Our licenses are single computer licenses and are locked to each computer they are installed on. Basically, the license key is specific to the computer's Host ID (the MAC address of the computer), and will not work on another computer. The installer picks up the physical MAC address of the network card connected to the computer which is basically “Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter”. So unless you change your network card, the key will always work even if you reinstall your operating system. If your internal network is periodically assigning a different Host ID to your computer, then please find a solution for this with your IT department.
